Hey everyone, it's Yoshi from N-TECH!Last time, I wrote about paint correction and coatings, but today we're diving into Paint Protection Film (PPF) also known as Clear Bra.
So, when you think about getting PPF installed, what made you consider it? And how much of your car are you thinking about covering (or already have covered)?
Let me share what I've done on my personal cars...
For my Porsche Boxster, I’ve got full front coverage and rocker panels protected. Since I only take the Boxster out for fun drives, it’s not going to be sitting in parking lots or grocery stores (honestly, I make sure it doesn’t!). That means I don’t really have to worry about door dings. My main concern is protecting against rock chips from winding roads and freeway debris, and I also want to prevent scuffs from my shoes when I get in and out of the car. So, full front and rocker protection is the way to go.
Now, for my GMC Sierra HD 3500 DRW, it’s a totally different story. This truck doesn’t see grocery stores either, but that’s because it’s my heavy-duty hauler for pulling my race car trailer. This truck racks up a lot of miles and hits all kinds of roads – good and bad. The dual rear wheels mean the rear fenders get scratched up fast. Plus, black paint looks fantastic, but it’s also a nightmare to keep swirl-free! So, I’ve gone with full PPF coverage to keep the truck looking brand new. That way, every time I show up at the track, my Sierra is still shining like the day I bought it.
And then there's my Tesla Model Y, which is my daily driver for everything – from commuting to hitting up Home Depot. That means it’s constantly exposed to minor accidents and door dings. But with full PPF, most of the time I only need to replace the film if something happens. And if a door ding actually dents the car, it can usually be fixed with Paintless Dent Repair (PDR). Here’s the beauty of PDR – if you’ve got PPF installed and the film isn’t torn, the repair is quick and easy, with just the cost of PDR! Even if the film does need replacing, it’s still way cheaper and faster than going to a body shop for a repaint. You’ll save a ton of time and money!
So, as you can see, there’s a lot to think about when deciding on how much of your car to cover with PPF. It’s not just for high-end sports cars – even daily drivers benefit from full coverage!
Quick tips for when you’re thinking about PPF:
When you talk to a shop about getting PPF installed, it helps to give them some details, like:
What model it is
How you use the car (daily driver, weekend fun, track use, etc.)
How long you plan to keep it
A good shop will take all of this into account and recommend the best coverage for your situation. And if they just suggest a standard package without asking these kinds of questions, it might be time to look for another shop!
At N-TECH, I’ll help you find the best solution for your car, keeping everything from your driving style to potential trade-in value in mind. Let’s chat and figure out what’s best for you!
