FAQ: "Do you remove parts for PPF installation?"

Updated: 6 days ago

The short answer: it depends. We prioritize your preferences, but here’s how we approach it if you leave the decision to us.

We determine whether to remove parts based on two key factors:

  1. Does removing the part pose minimal risk to the car or the part itself?

  2. Is there a significant benefit to removing the part for PPF installation?

If removing parts is the right approach, we create custom data to ensure the best possible result.

At N-TECH, we have experienced staff with backgrounds in mechanics, body kit design, and manufacturing. This expertise allows us to disassemble parts with precision, often more carefully than dealership mechanics. However, simply taking apart the car doesn’t guarantee a beautiful installation. That’s why we carefully evaluate each car to decide which parts to remove and which to leave in place.

For example, when it comes to front and rear bumpers, removing them as if it were a color change wrap job often leads to peeling issues around the edges within months. This happens because bumpers experience significant vibration while driving. With 20 years of experience, we’ve learned to avoid these common pitfalls.

Instead, we create custom data that ensures the PPF extends precisely to the edge where two parts meet. Even minor variations of about 1mm between cars of the same model are adjusted in the data. We also take this approach with areas like quarter window trims to achieve a perfect fit, minimizing the need for a cutting knife.

Why do we avoid cutting knives whenever possible?

There are three main reasons:

  1. To reduce variability in installation quality between installers.

  2. To minimize the risk of dirt buildup on film edges and ensure easier cleaning.

  3. To eliminate any risk of damaging the car with a knife.

Point 1: Using large film pieces can result in uneven stretching or tension, depending on the installer. Overstretched PPF can lose its protective properties, leading to issues like lifting or bubbling. Custom-cut data eliminates these risks and ensures consistency.

Point 2: In areas where film edges are visible, computer-cut edges collect less dirt and are easier to clean. While skilled hand cuts can approach this precision, we prioritize computer-cutting for the reasons in Point 3.

Point 3: Even with extensive training, human error is always a possibility—especially at the end of a long day. By using custom data, we reduce risks and maintain precision across all installations.

Conclusion

At N-TECH, we’re committed to delivering a "beautiful installation," whether it involves carefully disassembling parts or leaving them intact while ensuring a seamless finish. Let us know your preferences, and we’ll make it happen!

Thank you for reading, and we look forward to hearing from you!
